Crafting Unique Masterpieces: The Artistry of Custom Antler Chandeliers

When stumbling upon a vendor selling antler lamps by chance, Nick Jeffries, the owner and founder of Custom Antler Designs, had no idea that this encounter would ignite a lifelong passion. In a captivating podcast episode, he recounts his journey from an intrigued bystander to a skilled craftsman creating one-of-a-kind antler chandeliers. From therapeutic benefits to stunning custom installations, his work has become synonymous with artistry and individuality.

The Beginnings of a Craftsman:

Driven by curiosity, Nick purchased his first antler lamp from a roadside vendor. Taking it home, he delved into the intricate workings of the piece, fascinated by its construction. Soon after, he stumbled upon a man selling antlers and decided to explore his own creative potential. Little did he know, this chance encounter would transform his life, providing solace and purpose. As a retired marine, Nick struggled to find an outlet that matched his adventurous spirit until he discovered the therapeutic joy of crafting antler art.

“Every piece is one-of-a-kind. I could make something similar, but never duplicate the same exact thing. That's what makes my art so special.”

Healing Through Art:

Crafting antler chandeliers became Nick’s sanctuary, offering respite from the challenges of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Each creation allowed him to lose himself in the creative process, finding solace and satisfaction. What started as a hobby gradually turned into a vocation, with Nick and his small team now producing one remarkable chandelier every week.

A Masterpiece at Caribou Creek Log Home:

One standout project in Nick’s portfolio involved a stunning addition to a Caribou Creek Log Home. By leveraging the existing log framework of the staircase, he artfully removed the copper pipes and meticulously crafted an antler railing within the log frame, without compromising the structure. The real marvel of this installation was the collection of matching and custom-made antler pairs. From non-typical, award-winning pieces to impressive trophy sets, the railing showcased mule deer, bull elk, monster-sized moose, and more. Remarkably, all the antlers used in the project were naturally shed, ensuring no harm came to any animals.

The Power of Uniqueness:

One of Nick’s proudest claims to fame is his commitment to preserving the authenticity of the antlers he works with. He refrains from staining, allowing the natural colors and textures to shine. Each piece becomes a testament to the individuality of the animals that shed their antlers, resulting in custom, non-duplicatable masterpieces. The harmonious blend of colors and textures across each chandelier tells a remarkable story, paying homage to the animals and the beauty of the natural world.
