Peeler / Debarker

About the Role:

This part time job is for someone who likes to get a days’ wage in half a days’ time. It is a full excursion duty and requires good physical fortitude. This role also is best suited for someone who likes to only work 1-3 days per week as they will be working with other peelers to furnish the needed finished material.

Here is a breakdown of time spent doing a specific task:

• Use draw knife to hand-peel Doug Fir logs ~80%
• Use power washer to debark cedar logs ~10%
• Use draw knife and spudding tool to debark Doug Fir logs ~10%

Occasionally you will be asked to clock in and help with other tasks that could include:

• Predrilling holes for electrical chases and lags for homes 
• Shop clean up
• Loading trucks with crane
• Buffing / sanding homes

Sawyer

About the Role:

This position is mostly responsible for operating  the sawmills, planers, edgers and kilns. This role is responsible for cutting very precise flats on log projects in a timely manner. They will also be the person to produce the timbers needed in timber frame projects, which involves selecting the logs that would be most suitable for producing the needed beams. This person will also be overseeing the kilns and coordinating the kiln schedule with management. They will working on the planer to bring timbers to the correct size. This role also will be responsible for pulling special logs for projects that are requested by the foremen. Milling beams tends to create a fair amount of waste, so it is required that this person makes an effort to think through best uses of the extra material to minimize waste.

Log Structure Foreman  

About the Role:

This role will be the person responsible for digesting the plans of a new project, thinking through its entirety and making a plan to complete the build in the target timeframe. The position requires the oversight and direction of a team of about 4-6 Crafters who will be doing the majority of the construction with your guidance and participation. This role ensures the overall quality of the construction within our facility and also the restacking on the job site which requires travel 3-4 times per year, generally within the western States.

 Mechanic,Equipment Maintenance and Fabrication

About the Role:

Depending on the candidate, this role could flex to be a full time position, but at minimum would be a couple days of work per week. The role would require a large amount of autonomy to execute a wide variety of tasks for both Caribou Creek and Ibex including:

● Proactively maintaining the company’s fleet of vehicles and equipment

● Repairing a variety of equipment as needed such as cranes, kilns, sawmills, etc

● Capable off repairing tools such as chainsaws and electric drills

● Ability to weld and fabricate custom metal works is a key part to this role

● Occasionally painting hardware for projects such as angle iron, lags, bolts, etc

● Trips to town to pick up parts at Carquest or metal at North Idaho Welding

● Willingness to go offsite occasionally to repair equipment on a jobsite

About the Role:

Depending on the candidate, this role could flex to be a full time position, but at minimum would be a couple days of work per week. The role would require a large amount of autonomy to execute a wide variety of tasks. This tasks would include things such as grass cutting, building or repairing odds and ends around the shop, supply shopping, workshop cleanup, etc.

However, given the right person in this role, they could also be used in cabin tear downs and loading, and entry level crafting.
